For those of you who are interested in history a good place to start is the beautiful Orange Square in the centre of Marbella near to your holiday villa. This square, with its obvious Moorish influences, is flanked by orange trees and stately buildings. A point of beauty in the square is the 15th century renaissance fountain, also the grand 16th century town hall and the Governor's House dating back to 1552. Without a doubt the most important building is the Baroque style Church of St Mary from 1618. The organ of this ancient church is unbelievable with its 5,000 pewter, copper and wooden pipes, four keyboards and 36 note pedals.

For a good day out from your holiday apartment or town house visit the jet setters haunt of Puerto Banus to the east of Marbella. The marina here has some of the most incredible multi-million pound yachts and motor cruisers. While you are in Puerto Banus don't pass up the Saturday flea market where you can purchase almost anything from clothes to furniture and artwork to food.
