Things to do on Tenerife – Water park, zoo, wildlife centre and beaches

Aqualand -

Close to Los Cristianos and about a 5 minute drive from the Playa de las Americas resort is the Aqualand aquatic park. There is a shuttle bus which runs daily between both resorts.

Aqualand is well known for the Rio Bravo and Kamikaze rides as well as other rides and entertainment such as the waterfalls, slides, pools, trampolines and a children's castle. There are also sunbed areas, restaurants, snack bars and souvenir shops. Another feature of Aqualand is Dolphin lake and the Dolphin show which you definitely do not want to miss.

The park has a Dolphin show, Dolphin lake, children's area and some amazing water rides including the Rio Bravo and Kamikaze, waterfalls, slides, pools, trampolines, children's castle, sun bed areas, restaurants, shops and snack bars.

Parque las Aquilas (Tenerife Zoo) -

Parque Las Aguilas is known by several names: The Eagle Park, Las Aguilas Del Teide and The Jungle Park.

In the hills overlooking Mount Teide, on a 75,000 m2 plot, and 5 klm from Los Cristianos is the tropical gardens park, Parque las Aguilas. Its tropical gardens are a host to various flora and fauna types as well as having a jungle trail for kids. The intention is to give you the real jungle experience as the trees are alive with parrots and other tropical birds. There are many other sites within the gardens like the pygmy hippo and white tiger enclosures as well as the monkey park or camel park where you can have a ride.

Loro Parque -

The most popular wildlife centre on the island though is the Loro Parque which is situated on the outskirts of the Puerto de la Cruz resort. Loro Parque is home to the largest collection of parrots in the world and the biggest dolphinarium in all of Europe. You can go through the plexiglass tunnel of the huge aquarium and view the sharks as well as some 20,000 other marines animals. It also boast of gorillas, huge tigers and jaguars. Its latest addition is the penguin island. There are daily shows to enjoy with the parrots, sea lions and dolphins.

There are plenty of snack bars and restaurants so you never go hungry as well as the necessary souvenir shops.

There are parrot, dolphin and sea lion shows throughout the day. At peak times they can become very crowded so arrive early to get the best pool side seats. The park has a large number of pizzeria, restaurants and shops and if you are staying in Puerto de la Cruz then a "road train" operates every 20 minutes from the Playa Martinez in the centre of the resort.
