Shopping in Denia is a sheer delight. Besides offering all the high street essentials, there are some top of the range clothes shops with designer wear for both men and women and beautiful gift shops specialising in the unusual and exquisite (we're not talking sticks of rock and giant sombreros here!)
Denia has some excellent shops particularly in the main street, Calle de Marques de Campo, where you will find boutiques and designer shops for both men and women. Try the sweets at the local confectioners and the delicious cakes and pastries from the bakery. There are the usual supply of gift shops which sell traditional local handicrafts such as wickerwork, ceramics and leather goods, as well as a wide assortment of souvenirs and trinkets.
A myriad of restaurants offers some of the best regional and international cuisine on the Costa Blanca. There are some great tapas bars, seafood restaurants with a mouth watering selection of produce fresh from local waters, Indonesian, Mexican, Italian and Greek restaurants.
As for the beaches, they stretch for 20 kilometres either side of Denia and consistently win the European Blue Flag for safety and cleanliness.
Shopping in Javea
The town's outdoor market takes place every Thursday (old town-parking place) and is a bustling market, offering a huge range of fresh produce. The stalls are full of fresh seasonal fruit, vegetables, nuts, fish and meats. It’s an economical way to shop, and you can barter as most prices aren’t on display.
Leather goods and shoes can be found along with linens and clothing stalls. Some stalls sell the same items for different prices so it’s worth having a wonder around.
At the side of the church of San Bartolome, is the Indoor Market, a beautiful Neo Gothic building. You can buy local fresh produce daily, and it’s an excellent way to practice your Spanish.
For imported foods the larger super markets now stock more products It can be quite expensive but the range is becoming larger.
Opening times of shopstendto follow the traditional times based around the siesta, with many closing around 13.30 to 14.00, and opening up again between 16.00 and 17.00. The main reason behind this is to avoid working in the hottest part of the day in the summer months. Many non-food shops do not open until 9.30 or 10 a.m. and some shops do not open on a Saturday afternoon, or if they are open on Saturdays, like a Hairdressers for example, they usually do not open on a Monday. Nearly all shops and local smaller supermarkets are closed on a Sunday. On national and local bank holidays, it is best to check beforehand, some supermarkets open during the morning, especially if the bank holiday falls on a Saturday or Monday.
The Arenal has a range of clothing shops, for Men and Women, from the ethnic cheaper style clothing to the more expensive designer brands. There are a couple of shoes shops too, plus perfume and jewellery shops. In the summer season it’s a popular place to buy trinkets and gifts for tourists. The main chemist at Arenal, shown by its neon green cross, is open through out the lunch period, and has an opticians too.
The Old Town, has a few shops tucked away down its narrow streets, they are mainly boutiques or furniture shops. There are art shops and galleries that are well worth a visit, and many cafes to stop and rest between the shopping.
The Port has newsagents stocking magazines and papers in several languages. Plus a couple of English book stores, plenty of hair salons, and several furniture and home ware shops. All three zones of Javea offer the basic amenities, supermarkets, chemists and shops.
For serious shopping many people travel to La Marina the shopping mall by Carrefour in Benidorm. About an hours drive away is the beautiful buzzing city of Valencia, where you can shop in all the well known stores and department stores.
Shopping in Moraira
Moraira Village provides all of the usual services demanded by a busy modern seaside resort. Food-shops, banks, legal, communications etc. are well represented and there a numerous boutiques, art galleries, gift and souvenir shops to tempt the visitor with an excellent range of quality produce. For those who prefer the less-hectic way of life, away from the village centre, there are many more supermarkets, shops and restaurants located in the outlying shopping centres which include large trolley-to-car mini-hypermarkets.
Food Shops - The normal shopping hours are 9:00 to 13:00pm and 16:00 until 20:00pm and many shops and supermarkets are open on Sundays and Fiestas but in the morning only.
