La Pineda is a self-contained two storey villa nestling amongst the pines on a hillside above Sa Riera beach, which can be accessed by car in a couple of minutes, or by a steep flight of steps for the fit and energetic. The house is 20 years old, and it has been completely transformed in 2006 with much thought being given to comfort and style. There are wide terraces, perfect for breakfasting in the sun, beautiful planting and views to the sea. The setting is peaceful, yet not remote. The historic hillside town of Begur is nearby, the area offers a wide range of cultural and sporting activities, with excellent restaurants and wines. The coast offers a wide variety of sandy coves and sweeping bays. It has one of the highest concentrations of 'Blue Flag' sites in Europe. A bonus is that the owner, who lives in the house below (accessed by a lower road) is an excellent cook and meals, shopping and child-care can be arranged, if desired.

This area of the coast has great natural splendour with a fine tapestry of ancient walled towns and hilltop villages. The beautiful city of Girona is only 40 minutes drive. Not only is the whole area steeped in culture, but, especially in the low season, the villa is an ideal centre for numerous sporting activities - for example, there are well-marked tracks for walking and cycling and mountain bicycling is especially popular in the undulating terrain. We can advise on all the above and even arrange for guided horseback riding. Catalunia is famous for its marvellous GOLF COURSES - 9, all superbly sited, and the course considered one of the best in Europe is less that 15 minutes drive away - at PALS. Skiing too can be enjoyed as the Pyrennes slopes are two to three hours drive from Begur. Culturally too, there is much to see, the Dali Museum at Figures and his homes at Portlligat and Cadeques can be visited. Barcelona needs no introduction and is easily accessible.

More area information

The villa is ideal for a winter holiday, having double glazing throughout, as well as central heating and an open fire. During the cooler weather the full range of sporting activities can be taken advantage of; for example we are situated in beautiful walking and cycling country with well-marked trails and tracks. Mountain biking is also a popular sport and the terrain was ideal for the recent World Championship trials. We can also arrange guided horseback riding Catalunia is a well known golfing area too, in fact Golf World Magazine praised the Golf Club of Pals - a fifteen minute drive from Begur as one of the best in Europe. There are no less that nine Golf courses in the region, all in superb sites. Skiing too is possible, the slopes of Andorra are accessible in about two to three hours. Finally, the cultural sites and the beautiful medieval towns in the area can be seen to advantage in low season.

Golf

In 2000 Catalunia was named as 'emerging golf destination of the year' by the International Association of Golf Tour Operators. They recognised the merits of the area and the number of high quality Golf courses. An added bonus is the splendid setting of the majority of the Golf Clubs and the warm welcome extended to players from abroad. Many high quality tournaments are now played in Catalunia.

* A cheque for €300 (£200) ($400) will be requested on arrival which will act as a holding deposit against any breakages or damage; this will, of course, be returned if not needed. The Christmas holiday week will be charged at €830.

* If you are paying electronically from USA, please add $28 to the total due, as we are charged by the bank for these transactions.

* Please would vacating guests leave by 11.00 am on the day of their departure, so that the house can be thoroughly cleaned and left in good order for arriving guests. The house will be ready for guests by 4.00 pm.

Smoking is requested on the 3 terraces only please It should be emphasized that the house is sited on the side of a hill (see illustration) and, therefore, the garden is not suitable for playing in, it consists of landscaped flowerbeds terraced down the hillside. The co-owners are both trained in Interior Design and they have given a lot of thought to the comfort and convenience of the house. The kitchen and bathrooms and most of the interior furniture and fittings are new this season. The villa is wi-fi enabled, should you wish to bring a laptop.

Rating		We can only endorse the fantastic comments from previous guests. The villa was spacious, well equipped and spotlessly clean. The terraces are ideals for relaxing, especially when looking out at the sea view. Denise is very welcoming and we really enjoyed meeting her. She gave us excellent recommendations for places to visit and restaraunts. We got Denise to do shopping for us and provide a welcome buffet which meant that we could relax immediately - a great start to our stay. As well as the welcome buffet, we had Denise cook us a meal one night - her cooking is fantastic so we recommend you try it! The area is excellent with some many places to visit and see including Girona, Dali's museum, lots of lovely medieval villages and gorgeous bays along the coast. We had a great time and would highly recommend both the villa and the owner!

Rating		two families with 2 x 2 childrens (10 to 16 old) we enjoyed very much our stay at La Pineda, starting by a very friendly welcome. House is very nice, clean and well equiped. Wonderfull scenery from the terrace. Stairs to come back from the beach are a very good way to stay in form. Coast around is really beautifull and allows to go walking, cycling, swimming diving from the rocks or to do nothing on the beach! It is definitely a good place to forget all your worries ans stress

Rating		We had a wonderful stay here. The villa was really well equipped and there was enough space that we weren't getting in each other's hair. Denise prepared a lovely welcome buffet despite being in agony after root canal work! There's dedication for you. She was also very helpful and able to give us good tips about the area. We spent a lot of time sitting outside on the terraces enjoying the warm weather and the tranquil view. Only constructive comment I would make is that there was no safety rail on the upper bunk bed but Denise is now aware of this and I am sure will sort it out. La Pineda is in a great position, close to Sa Riera beach (lovely) and Begur village and on the nicest stretch of coast on the Costa Brava. Totally different to the resorts further North and South (Roses, Lloret), much quieter and less developed. Had a train trip to Barcelona (unmissable)and drove to various places in the area. Recommend Palafrugell market (Sun), Pals and Dali museum at Figueres. Can't imagine anyone not enjoying a holiday here. Sarah and Simon, Poppy (5), Edythe (3), Gran and Grandad.
