Moraira

Moraria is an unspoilt gem amongst the Costa Blanca resorts, its 8km's of stunning coastline has a scenic mountain range as a backdrop. The town boasts of some fabulous eateries, several beaches and is steeped in history, so whatever kind of holiday you are looking for Moraira has it all.

This one time fishing village now has all of the necessary and modern services to make any stay enjoyable whilst still retaining its tranquil setting. The town still holds its amazing fish auction from Tuesday to Sunday in the port every morning though keeping in the traditional Spanish way of life.

If it’s lying on a quite beach that you are longing for, then the long stretch of beach in Moraira with its crystal clear waters is the place. It can be easily reached by boat or foot. All coves and beaches have their share of restaurants, parking areas, and showers. One particular cove, El Portet, is worth a visit and is steeped in history. It has offered shelter for thousands of years to Phoenician, Greek, Roman, Arab and pirate sailing and trading ships. These days it offers a range of water sports for the more adventurous tourist.

As with any small, or large for that matter Spanish town, fiesta's play a key part in Moraira life. The main fiesta honours the patron saint of the village, ‘La Virgen de los Desamparados’ or the Virgen of the Helpless and ‘La Virgen Carmen, who is the protector of the fishermen. The festival takes place on the 15th and 16th of July every year, but the celebrations lasts for around 10 days. The townsfolk wear colourful traditional costumes and parade through the streets. The parade includes brass bands, dancers, and for the brave there is bull running in the marina. On the last day of the festival a statue of the Virgin is carried from the church and around the town before being cast out to sea to watch over the fishermen. The fiesta ends with a giant Paella, which is served free to all.
