If it is history you are looking for, then Alaior is steeped in ancient heritage. Founded in the 14th century by Jaume I, its winding narrow streets are most famed for producing the islands well known and much loved cheese, Queso de Mahon.
Fornells is a traditional and picturesque Menorcan fishing village. The sheltered bay is popular with those wishing to take up windsurfing as the conditions are ideal for beginners. If you do venture to Fornells, then a visit the stunning Cueva de Na Polida caves, famous for their spectacular stalactites, is a must.
Also worth a visit is Cap de Penyes, the headland next to Son Bou where the original settlement was built in the 5th century. Here visitors can see the caves that served as homes for the first settlers and explore the remains of a fortified Talaiotic Village (Bronze Age). At the foot of the cliffs there are also the ruins of an early Christian basilica.
