The sitting/dining room is well furnished, leather sofa with recliners, TV with DVD player and local SKY freeview channels. Dining table for 4, A fully fitted kitchen, with ceramic hob and oven, microwave/grill oven, fridge/freezer, kettle & toaster. Utility room with washing machine and ironing board and iron. There is a variety of DVD's and books etc available. The communal swimming pool also has a children splash pool attached. In Salobrena itself, numerous walks in and around the old town, the moorish castle in the town and fuente park a bird/play park for the children. Well equipped base for a relaxing family holiday

The apartment was clean and well furnished and well enough equipped to entertain and accomodate our teenage daughters (UK TV channels, DVDs, pool & sunbathing, etc) and 3 month old daughter (cot, splash pool, pushchair accessible, etc) alike.

The kitchen had all mod-cons and perfectly satisfied our largely self-catering plan. The 'welcome pack' in the fridge was much appreciated until we got to explore the choice of 3 very well provisioned supermarkets in town. There was a small grocer's in one of the neighbouring blocks towards the beach.

Beds & furnishings were comfortable; towels and sheets were pleantiful - all much appreciated!

The Spanish neighbours were friendly even though we spoke little of the language.

The underground private parking to keep the rental car cool in the sun was a useful bonus.

Probably the only thing this apartment doesn't have is a good view of either the sea or the mountains but the terrrace does overlook the lovely private pool and manicured lawn.

Of the few times we ate out, we would recommend El Penon on the seafront for the wonderful range of seafood dishes. If you've never tried beach-barbequed octopus, now's your chance!

The beach is easily accessible from the appartment but we also enjoyed the beach at la Herradura and Joaquim's beach restaurant is highly recommended for the Paella - especially at the weekend when they cook it in a giant dish on a beach barbeque!

Marina del Este was idyllic but the restaurants pricey - and mostly frequented by Brits so somewhat defeats the object of going the Costa Tropical where the joy is not only the microclimate but also how un-Anglicised it all is (despite which we never felt unwelcome as non-Spanish speakers).

We missed the Friday morning market at Almunecar and would aim to do this on a future visit. We chose another beach/pool day in preference to the Caves at Nerja but have done these on a previous trip.

For first timers to the region the must-see is the Alhambra in Granada. Now the motorway over the Sierra Navada has been finished you can be there from Solobrena in less than an hour and it's so easy to find the sat-nav really is redundant. In July 2009 the extension of the motorway from la Herradura to Motril looked likely to open imminently, avoiding the bottleneck of Almunecar and bringing Solobrena another 20-30 mins closer to Malaga airport.

Lovely apartment within a stone's throw of the beach. Spotlessly clean inside and the communal pool area/gardens and entrances are kept in a lovely condition.

The owners have kitted the apartment out well with everything you can think of and everything working as it should. Plenty clean towels and bed linen.

Upon arrival we were greeted with a welcome pack of essentials to get by until we could explore the local stores.If eating in, the kitchen comes well equipped even down to a bottle opener to help you sample some of the lovely (and cheap) red wines available locally.

Mini-supermarket a few minutes walk away for any essentials.

Salobrena itself is worth exploring. Try to catch the local bus which does a full circuit of the town venturing up into the "Old Town" and neighbouring Calleta.

Many of the bars in the area will serve you free tapas with your drinks as you sit back and enjoy the evening. Jesus Miguel Bar on Avenida de Garcia Lorca just before the site of the Municipal Market serves wonderful tapas!

Neighbouring Almunecar (10 miles) is worth visiting and there is a regular bus service there - if only to experience the market held every Friday morning or the kids' favourite, Almunecar's water-park.

An ideal base for exploring the surrounding area with numerous beaches and coastal towns or for heading inland towards Granada or the Alpujarras.

A lovely place for rest and relaxation

The apartment was very clean and well equipt. We really couldn't have asked for anything more. The kitchen was furnished with everything you could ask for. The balcony (which overlooks the garden and communal pool) was a lovely place to sit and relax on those lazy nights.

Unfortunately we went at a time of year that meant the weather wasn't on our side, however we made the best of it and it turned out to be a lovely week. Cold at times, however heaters were supplied.
Gordon and Susan were utterly fantastic, so very kind. We rented a car and got lost on our way from Granada airport, however Gordon was kind enough to meet us half way and guide us to the apartment. He also took the time to guide us back to the airport, as well as help us with directions during our stay.

The addition of SKY Freeview, a CD Player, DVD's and CD's gave us all our creature comforts. The bedrooms were also very well sized and the beds comfortable.

I would strongly recommend renting a car however. We spent 140 euros for the week, which included a full tank of petrol. It enabled us to have the freedom to explore, and because the apartment is roughly 20 minutes from the supermarket (on foot) it's beneficial for food shopping etc... The car also enabled us to visit the Friday Almuñecar market, which we loved.

I certainly recommend this apartment and hope you enjoy it as much as we did. If you go in low season (ie: Feb) then expect peace and quiet (the surrounding apartments were bare, which we loved and appreciated).

I'm giving this apartment a strong 8/10.
