Setting it apart from its coastal neighbours of Calpe and further south, Benidorm, the town council passed laws limiting the height of buildings and protecting the natural pines that cover the sides of the valley leading to the coastal part of the municipality, Moraira.

The first is a relaxing walk down a narrow street to the Plaza de la Constitucion (Constitution Square). Located here is the new Town Hall inaugurated in 1991. From here follow Canonge Valles Street to the Plaza de la Creu (Cross Square). Close to here, during medieval times, the village was fortified by a wall surrounding it. Located in its wall is The Sea Doorway which was closed to protect the village people during an attack by barbary pirates. The last plaza is reached via Dalt Street where you will find The Church Square.

On January 5th all the children in the village gather in the square where gifts are passed out to them during the Procession of the Three Kings. During Easter a cross is carried through out the village followed by people dressed in black holding candles, this is a very somber occasion.
